According to some media reports, the Flemish government’s coalition agreement will include a reduction in registration duties (registratierechten) from 3% to 2% for the purchase of a first home.

Buyers are flooding us with questions about whether they will be able to benefit from this reduction.

To get more clarity on this, we need to know for certain:

  • whether the reduction will actually happen
  • when it will take effect (1 January 2025?)
  • what the reference point will be: the preliminary sales agreement (compromis) or the notarial deed (akte)?

There is a lot of uncertainty at the moment, so we will have to wait a little longer until the final texts are known.
